Treat Yo’Self Thursday: DIY Sugar Lip Scrub!

Treat Yo’Self Thursday: DIY Sugar Lip Scrub!

You know what time it is? Time to Treat Yo’Self with a yummy lip scrub that you can easily whip up, with ingredients you likely already have on hand!

Summer is winding down here and my lips are already chapping at the thought of the harsh Canadian winter ahead, so I’m getting a head start to keeping them nice and moisturized so I can rock those deep lip shades I’ve been so looking forward to this fall and winter.

All you need to do is combine:

-       Sugar – you could use white or brown sugar. The coarser the grains, the more exfoliating action.
-       Oil – you can use any light oil. Try extra virgin olive oil, almond oil, or even coconut oil.
-       Honey

You can also play around with any colouring or flavouring you like (I want to try a minty one next). I decided to add some red food colouring JUST CAUSE.

If you want to make extra for multiple uses, you will also need an airtight container to keep it in.

I took about 1 tbsp of sugar and added about 1tsp of oil a little bit at a time, stirring it in until the sugar was saturated but not wet. Then I added a little squirt of honey to bind it all together so it wouldn’t be too messy to apply. Finally, I mixed in couple drops of food colouring, but it was a bit much so I would keep it to 1 drop next time.

Take the mixture and rub in gentle circular motions around your general lip area to remove excess dead and flaky skin. The oil in the mixture will help to keep your lips from drying out, but when you’re done I would apply a bit more oil or a moisturizing balm to your lips to really lock in the moisture!

Super easy, and I’m feeling more prepared for winter already! Stay tuned for next Thursday when I get over ambitious and try to show you how to really Treat Yo’Self with some DIY bath bombs!

Will you be trying to make your own sugar scrub? What do you think of this tutorial, and what would you like to see in the future? Leave us a comment!
