Nail Friday: Making Butter

Nail Friday: Making Butter

No, this isn’t about shaking a jar of cream and then spreading it on crackers so you can learn about…I don’t know…dairy? Did anyone else do this in 2nd grade? Anyway, I was scrolling endlessly through Tumblr, minding my own business, when I stumbled on the above nail photo. Gorgeous color, right? But shit, it’s Butter London. That means it’s $14 for ONE POLISH. Granted, I used six normal-priced polishes to make this one polish myself (and that probably adds up to over $14), but who’s counting (if you are, just stop)? This Nail Friday is to prove to you, dear Feminspire readers, that sometimes you do not need to splurge on that fancy Chanel, Butter London, or Illamasqua nail polish. Sometimes you can just glop a bunch of different polishes you already have together and get an awesome, free(ish), Frankenstein polish. Here’s what I used:

I painted on a base coat and then added about two coats of my favorite color ever made: Orly’s “Space Cadet.” This was followed by another layer of some Revlon duochrome polish (if you’re really curious, I’ll make myself get up and go look). In the pictures, the layers don’t look much different but in person it adds depth to each nail that one color simply cannot do.

Next, I added a sheer holographic top coat that I got from Etsy followed by a multicolored, clear glitter. I sealed it all in with my Seche Vite top coat and got exactly the look I was going for.

Butter status: made. The picture honestly do not capture how gorgeous this creation is in person so I took a video for you guys. Check it out!

Mesmerizing, right? I’m off to eat my weight in food with some friends, but I hope you enjoyed this week’s Nail Friday. Please comment below with suggestions, other colors you’d like to see me try and Frankenstein (no promises), and discussions about how excited you are for “The Hobbit.”
