BB creams have been getting a lot of attention lately. They’ve made the beauty rounds in countries like Japan and South Korea and have finally made their way over to the U.S.
BB creams are hyped as this super awesome magic holy grail of all makeup products. Good coverage with moisturizing properties? Sign everyone up. So needless to say, I was super excited to try out L’Oreal’s version.
The BB cream from L’Oreal comes in four shades, fair, light, medium and deep. I took a leap of faith and purchased the light version since I have fair skin with some yellow tones. Right out of the tube, I was surprised by the texture of this cream. It was white and a bit runny with some grainy beads in it. It totally threw me off because I had thought the cream would be thicker, more like a gel. The best comparison I can make is melted ice cream. Mmm.
I used about a quarter size and smoothed it over my face and down my neck a bit. Surprisingly, the beads evaporated and blended in with my skin! Immediately, the results were impressive. My face looked smoother and my little brown spots which are not freckles (but I pretend they are) faded away. I have a tough skin tone to match, and so far, it looked like this BB cream succeeded in blending well. My pores looked almost nonexistent.
The cream didn’t feel too heavy or tight on my skin. It definitely reminded me of liquid foundation. No smell or staining on my hands either! A Christmas miracle, I say.
Now came the waiting game. I kept checking my complexion in mirrors for the next few hours looking to see if there was any change. Unfortunately, after about three hours, I noticed that the BB cream had oxidized, meaning my skin turned into this magical shade of orange. It was a subtle transition, but I definitely noticed it. To combat the orange, I dusted some loose powder on my face, and that seemed to help.
Overall, I think L’Oreal has a very good BB cream. It definitely has great coverage and blending abilities, and it also succeeds in creating an airbrush finish. Like any other makeup product, it will definitely react with skin differently based on the individual, so other people may not experience my subtle Oompa Loompa shade of orange.
Make sure you look around for samples online so you can compare BB creams! I know I definitely will be scouring the web for samples, freebies, coupons, you name it. Where there’s a BB cream, there’s a curious makeup enthusiast asking, “Is this my holy grail?”
Have you tried L’Oreal’s BB cream? What did you think of it? Let us know in the comments!
