Four months shy of their second wedding anniversary, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced this morning that are expecting their first child. And don’t worry; the Royal Baby already has a Twitter account.
News outlets are already speculating the baby’s gender, guessing if “baby” might actually be twins, and chastising Kate should she decide to be a stay-at-palace mum.
It’s almost a blessing that the Duchess of Cambridge has been hospitalized with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness that can dehydrate the mother), or they’d be asking the fetus to make a statement via ultrasound.
It hardly comes as a shock that some of the billions who watched Will and Kate tie the knot are freaking out about the newest member of the Royal Family. Everything from Kate declining to drink at lavish parties to briefly touching her stomach sparked tabloid headlines about a potential pregnancy. Even her new haircut has been called a “distraction” from the fact that she’s got a bun in the oven.
Though there wasn’t social media in 1981, when the late Princess Diana announced she was expecting the future king, she was quoted saying, “The whole world is watching my stomach.” It seems not much has changed in terms of media scrutiny of the Royal Family since Prince William has become a daddy-to-be.
There isn’t much else to report on the future ruler (the baby will be third in line for the throne), but you can bet the media blasts and royal memorabilia are already on their way to a store near you.
