The dust is finally settling on New York’s Lincoln Center, home to the legendary New York Fashion Week. Trends were being noted and photographed, not only in fashion, but within the world of beauty.
A common runway theme this year was all about the 1940’s glam beauty, contrary to the boho chic fishtail braids and messy-top buns from the last few seasons. Bold red lips, flowing, perfect hair, the subtle eyes, all were the rage on the catwalks of Marc by Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, and the ultimate glam man, Oscar De La Renta. Break out those can rollers and bobby pins and starting rolling those tresses for gorgeous, effortless waves.
Whether it was on the streets or on the runway, a bold lip was big this year at Fashion Week! While nude lips can be boring, you can instead opt for a bold pink pout, radiant red, or if you’re really daring, go for a dark plum to continue with the ever-prevalent 90’s trend. My favorite lipsticks? YSL’s Rouge Pur, Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin, Guerlain Rouge Automatique, and Revlon Color Stay, for bold colors that last all day (or night).
For eyes, the trend is all about catching the light with shimmery shadows in metallic shades. On the runways at Derek Lam, J Mendel, and Thakoon we saw everything from copper to silver to disco ball-inspired eyes. Bat those lashes and have a party! MAC and Make Up Forever are two brands that offer perfectly shimmering and long-lasting options for this beauty trend.
As for nails, a deco look has quickly become popular, as well as easy to DIY thanks to nail strips! But at NYFW it’s all about creating something unique, something that’s your own. Though some designers, like DKNY and The Blonde’s, went all out with spikey, chained, and bedazzled nails, others kept it more low key. Color trends ranged from army greens and golds to a very popular “burnt almond,” an almost black hue that’s just brown enough to make us think “fall” without thinking “goth.” Another common occurrence was the half and half nail, as seen at Assembly New York and Creatures of The Wind. We’re also fully loving the subtly embellished nail look, a la Kate Spade New York. Who can resist the extra bit of edge to a girly hue!?
