Creative Ideas for the Feminist Pumpkin Carver!

Creative Ideas for the Feminist Pumpkin Carver!

One of my favorite parts of Halloween is carving pumpkins (I rocked a mean Ron Swanson last year). I picked up my pumpkin last night and I’ve been debating ever since what to carve this year! I wanted to pay tribute to my feminist leanings (who doesn’t love some good old fashioned pumpkin activism?), so I have collected a few design ideas that I though I’d share with you. I even created a few stencils for you to use.  You can create a stencil of anything you like (if you have a relatively HQ photo) by playing with the levels and threshold values in Photoshop and making a few edits by hand here and there.

First off we have some basic designs for the pumpkin-carving novice, or those who prefer a simple and sleek look for their pumpkin!

Show your support for womankind with either the symbol of feminism or two X chromosomes on your pumpkin this year, or declare your stance on the issue with the always poignant ‘feminist killjoy’ typographic pumpkin design. (Click images to see bigger and print!)

If you want to step up your game, why not immortalize your favorite feminist icons (fictitious or otherwise) or iconic images in pumpkin form?

On that note, I challenge someone to make a Gloria Steinem pumpkin stencil. I swear I tried real hard and just could not capture her glorious image in proper carveable form.

Lastly, if humor and, well… hot guys is more your bag, try out this depiction of Feminist Ryan Gosling on your pumpkin. Bonus: totally customizable for your individual feminist statement needs!

I hope you give one of these a try, or let me know your ideas for feminist pumpkin carvings! I still haven’t decided for myself, but I’m leaning towards Leslie Knope, gotta keep my Parks and Rec theme rolling.
