Discount collaborations have been a thing for a few years now. Collabs used to be reserved for lesser-known brands working with fast fashion retailers to get their name out there, but with the failing economy and the rising popularity of these collaborations, major fashion houses have been jumping on trend. Here’s who to look for in the upcoming fall and winter season!
Maison Martin Margiela for H&M
This Parisian fashion house has been working on this collaboration for months, finally showcasing their fast fashion line last month in New York City to an A-list audience. H&M is known for collaborating with the top tier of fashion notorieties, but this may be their biggest yet, even topping Versace and Anna Dello Russo. While the internet is already buzzing with anticipation, we still have to wait until November 15th to shop this exceptional line, and save for TwitPics and Instagram photos, there’s not much to be seen from the public POV until November 8th. Excited? We are.
Kirna Zabête for The Shops at Target and Nine West
This NYC retailer isn’t the most recognized name in the fashion industry (yet), but they are teaming up with not one, but two different companies this season.
The line for Target is gorgeous: with faux leather-lapelled blazers and flowing printed tunics, this collection is perfect for fall layering and can easily be topped off with some great accessories also from the line. It is available now, in stores and online. With prices starting at $10 and the average item price hovering around $35, it’s a designer steal.
Nine West has just released news that they will also be teaming up with the designers at Kirna for a full range line, set to debut in February 2013. With prices from $49 to $169, this set sounds great and we are eagerly waiting for images to be released.
Neiman Marcus and Target
This is probably the biggest collaboration the fashion world has seen thus far. Neiman Marcus is bringing together 24 CFDA designers to design 50+ pieces for our favorite one-stop shop, Target. The star studded cast includes Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Diane Von Furstenburg, Oscar De La Renta, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia, and Target designer alumna Proenza Schoular, Jason Wu, and Rodarte. Excited yet? To get you even more pumped, watch this behind-the-scenes sneak peak video that was published on the Target corporate website, along with more info about the collaboration. The collection doesn’t drop until December 1st, but I’m willing to bet it will be worth the wait!
Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl’s
November 7th, 7am, Narciso Rodriguez’ limited edition line goes on sale at all Kohl’s department stores. The collection, as shown in the previews on the Kohl’s website, is all about color blocking and contrasting in form-fitting silhouettes, staying in similar fashion to the designer’s higher end pieces which are more commonly seen for sale at Barney’s and Bergdorf’s. Prices are set to range from $30 to $150 for these fabulous dresses and pieces which are inspired by Rodriguez’s trip to Istanbul. This is Kohl’s first collaboration endeavor in what they’re calling “DesigNation,” and there’s been quite a buzz.
Are you excited for these collaborations? What are some of your favorite past designer collaborations? Share with us in the comments!
