Scientists and estheticians alike have been touting the benefits of natural and organic skincare products for years. Finally, these products are becoming more widely available — and cheaper! I was definitely interested in going natural, but was hesitant to switch from my regular products because I have sensitive, acne-prone skin. After trying almost everything over the counter and even visiting my dermatologist a few times, I finally stumbled upon the following amazing products (and yes, they actually work!)
Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash (Original) for oily and combination skin
The title might be a mouthful, but this face wash is worth every word. It worked absolute wonders on my skin to the point that I barely use my prescription medication for acne. And bonus — it was dirt cheap! I purchased a 32 ounce bottle from Vitacost.com for about $10. The face wash is helpful for oily skin like mine because it contains tea tree oil, which is a drying agent. Most face washes for oily or acne-prone skin left my face feeling tight and much too dry — this over-drying can actually cause more breakouts because your skin tries to overcompensate for the loss of moisture and produces more oil. For the animal lovers, this face wash is not tested on animals, contains no animal derived ingredients, has no parabens, artificial fragrances or dyes, and it is even gluten free!
LUSH’s Catastrope Cosmetic face mask
Most women want to feel pampered from time to time but maybe can’t or don’t want to shell out the fifty or hundred dollars for a facial at their favorite spa. If this is the case for you, find your nearest LUSH store and snap up this fabulous mask. It can be used on any skin type and it leaves your face feeling cool, soft, and refreshed. Even better, the mask only costs about $7 for 2.1 ounces. This product does have a couple drawbacks. Since it is made fresh in the store, it does expire pretty quickly, which can be annoying if you only want to use it once a week. Also, the fresh ingredients in the mask (like blueberries!) require it to be refrigerated.
Alba Botanica Natural Very Emollient Bath and Shower Gel
Now that your face is fresh and feeling gorgeous, don’t forget about the rest of you! The honey mango scent leaves your skin smelling summery and tropical — if that doesn’t appeal to you, it comes in a variety of other equally soothing scents like lavender or midnight tuberose. The gel is thick, luxurious, and great on dry skin — which, if you forget to use lotion every day like me, you might struggle with! The body wash is not tested on animals and contains no harmful parabens or sulfates. Best of all you can find it almost anywhere — I bought my first bottle at Wal-mart! A 32 ounce bottle cost about $16 but also lasted me at least a couple months.
If you have been hesitant to try natural beauty products because you think they won’t work for you, please give one of these products a chance. Your skin, your wallet, and the animals will thank you!
I have not been asked or paid to promote any of these products.
